ClipItTheir window to the world, chosen by you. Coming soon for Android

For parents of kids under 14

Send them the good clips. Skip the feed.

Show your child the world, without giving the world access to your child.

You pick a clip and send it as a private link in a normal text message. Your child taps it and watches. That's the whole thing.

  • No app to install
  • No account
  • No social media profile

ClipIt works as intended only on a supervised device. Before your first clip, turn on Family Link or Screen Time on your child's phone or tablet so they can't install social media apps. See the setup

How it works

From your phone to theirs in three steps

  1. Choose a clip

Pick a clip from a public post on YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook and more, or one of your own videos.

  2. Send it by text

ClipIt creates a private link and you send it, with a note if you like, in a normal text message.

  3. They tap and watch

Your child opens the link in their phone or tablet's web browser. Nothing is posted to your profile or to any public feed.

What your child sees

Clips play exactly as each platform made them

The platforms require that their players stay unchanged, so we don't hide their logos or links. That's why the setup below matters.

Platform clips

The platform's own player

A YouTube clip plays in YouTube's player, an Instagram Reel in Instagram's, and so on. Each keeps its logo, buttons and links to its platform.

Your own videos

Just your video

Videos you recorded yourself play full screen with no links to any other app or website.

Required before your first clip

Turn on parental controls. ClipIt depends on it.

Because platform players keep their links, your child's device must be set so they can't install social media apps. It takes about ten minutes, once.

Android phone or tablet

Uses Google Family Link

  1. Set up Family Link for your child's Google account if you haven't already.
  2. In Family Link, turn on purchase and download approvals for Google Play, so every new app needs your OK.
  3. Decline any social media app your child requests, and remove any that are already installed.
  4. Choose a website setting for Chrome. Family Link › [your child] › Controls › Google Chrome and Web

iPhone or iPad

Uses Screen Time

  1. Set up Family Sharing and a child account if you haven't already.
  2. Block new app installs. Settings › Family › [your child] › Apps & Websites › App Store › Installing Apps › Blocked
  3. Turn on Ask to Buy so any app request comes to you. Settings › Family › [your child] › Apps & Websites › Restrictions › Ask to Buy
  4. Delete any social media apps already on the device, and keep website filtering on. Settings › Family › [your child] › Apps & Websites › Restrictions › Filtering

About the links inside platform players

With social media apps blocked, tapping a platform's logo opens its public website in the browser instead of the app. Keep your child signed out of every social media account in their browser, and watch the first few clips together so they know what each button does.

Questions

Good to know

Does my child need an app or an account?

No. Your child opens the link in their web browser. They don't need ClipIt, a social media app or any account to watch.

Can my child get from a clip to YouTube or Instagram?

Platform players keep their logos and links, and tapping one can open that platform's public website. That's why ClipIt requires parental controls that block social media apps, and why we suggest keeping your child signed out of social media accounts in the browser. Videos you recorded yourself have no links.

Who can open a clip I send?

Anyone who has the link. Only send it to people you'd share the clip with, and nothing is posted to your profile or to any public feed.

Which platforms work?

YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook and several more, using each platform's official player. You can also send your own videos.

Why does ClipIt need parental controls turned on?

ClipIt shows platform clips the way the platforms require, links included. Blocking social media apps on your child's device is what keeps a tap on a logo from opening a full social media app with its feed and recommendations.
